Film – TV Series Screenwriting Certificate Program

In the certificate program, faculty members from Istanbul Aydın University Faculty of Communication and professionals from MEDYAPIM will deliver practical training on TV series and film screenwriting. The training will take place at the Florya Campus and at Medyapım’s office in Levent.

The courses, starting from the fundamentals of screenwriting, will provide intensive content on how the scripts of today’s most watched TV series are written, along with opportunities to practice these techniques. All students enrolled in the program will be able to attend the script meetings held at the Medyapım office. The course schedule and office visit program will be announced soon.

  • Objective: To train qualified professionals in the field of screenwriting for the film and TV industry.
  • Scope: For 16 weeks (Tuesday – Thursday: 6 hours / Total 96 hours), practice-oriented training will be delivered by industry professionals and academics who are experts in their fields.
  • General Requirements: The certificate program is open to all graduates of any undergraduate program. Classes will be conducted practically in groups of up to 20 participants.

Detailed Course Content:

Week 1: Screenwriting is fundamentally based on storytelling. Although a screenplay is a technical text, it is part of the process of visualizing a story that draws inspiration from tales, myths, and narratives. In this course, the transformation of storytelling from past to present and the position of the screenplay within this process will be examined.

Week 2: What is a screenplay and where does it begin? How is it taught? What should be done to make the process of developing and writing a story more structured and planned? These questions will guide the discussion of the fundamental characteristics of screenplay writing.

Week 3: To correctly understand and convey the language of a screenplay, the terminology used in screenwriting will be presented with examples from different screenplay formats.

Week 4: A screenplay also serves as a guide for many professionals involved in a production. Elements such as set design, costumes, and lighting should support the story. Within the scope of the course, practical exercises will be conducted on screenplay writing and art design.
